EMBARKING ON THE ESFRI ROADMAP 2018 AT ICRI 2016
With the DiSSCo proposal – Distributed System of Scientific Collections – in the pipeline to seek inclusion in the Roadmap 2018 of the European Science Forum of Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), CETAF has attended the International Conferences on Research Infrastructures (ICRI 2016) in Cape Town, South Africa. Here, on 4 October 2016, ESFRI launched a fifth update of the European Roadmap for Research Infrastructures as the ESFRI Roadmap 2018.
This scheme aims to identify new Research Infrastructures that are strategic in responding to long-term needs of scientific and innovation communities across Europe. They offer science services that would benefit large research communities in order to remain at the forefront of scientific innovation.
Inclusion of DiSSCo, as an organic system of distributed collection facilities, in this pan-European Roadmap will ensure that European Natural History Collections will be part of a comprehensive action plan that brings science and innovation at the heart of its commitments to respond to current and anticipated societal challenges. As a research infrastructure, DiSSCo will enable scientists to address complex challenges and provide data, expertise and services to academia, industry, policy-makers and society through the development of an innovation hub.
